Planning a wedding can be a daunting and stressful time in more ways than one. But, if you have the right partner, it should be exciting working together to plan a celebration for your future marriage.
Often times, planning the wedding for two falls into the hands of one because your significant other doesn’t seem to want to help pick out linens or decide on centerpieces. It might even start arguments because their disinterest in planning the wedding could be mistaken for a disinterest in your future marriage. So, how do you involve your partner to ensure stress-free planning?
Focus on Communication
The foundation to any relationship, a conversation about communication is a great place to start. Talk to your partner prior to planning and make sure you’re both on the same page with expectations for this process. “We need to work together to plan our big day” will make a better impact than accusing them of not caring in the first place.
Plan Ahead
As most couples know, marriage is about compromise and this is a great opportunity to let go of perfection and talk about what each of you envision for this special day. If you were picturing a rustic Italian banquet and your partner was thinking winter wonderland, this is a great place to practice. Allowing your partner to implement their ideas for the wedding will make the planning run smoothly, and get them excited about it in the process.
Divide and Conquer
Once you’ve established the basics that go into the wedding, split up and get them done! Like they say, two is always better than one! You can accomplish tasks quickly and focus on a few aspects of your wedding at a time if you know and trust that your partner is doing the same.
To Do Together List
Planning a wedding should be a time full of love. Sure, booking vendors and choosing napkin colours aren’t the most exciting tasks but, the best part about planning a wedding is knowing that on this special day, you and your partner will begin your lives – together. So, why not save a few “chores” to do together? It might not end up being the video montage from The Wedding Singer but we’re pretty certain that when you walk down the aisle and meet your partner at the altar, all of your dreams will have come true.
