Creating the perfect menu for your next banquet hall event isn’t just about choosing your favourite entree, but about carefully considering what tone you want to set, what type of event you’re hosting, and remembering the general timeline for the evening. While you can create your own menu from scratch, it’s always beneficial to work with a team with predetermined packages that can help guide you in the right direction.
But even with packages, there are still decisions that must be made. Here are the steps to take when choosing a delicious menu for your next event:
Understand the event details
Your event type will help you determine what your next steps are when menu planning. If you’re hosting an elaborate wedding, you’ll likely consider a multiple course plated dinner, but if you’re hosting a corporate meeting, a lunch buffet might be better for you. Your guest count will also play into this as well the date and time of your event. Menus can look different in the winter versus the summer, and events with a huge guest count will likely have a different food service than events with only 40 guests.
Decide on the structure of the meal
If you’re looking for something that’s more laidback and casual, you’ll want to opt for some sort of a buffet with crowdpleasers on the menu like pasta and chicken. If the theme of the event is more luxurious, we suggest plated or French-style service with elevated options such as filet mignon and lobster. You’ll want to consider serving palate cleansers and focusing on presentation.
Select your menu items
This is the most exciting step! Consider what food you’ll be serving at your banquet event.
Appetizers: these can be passed hors d’oeuvres or stationary appetizers like an antipasto station
Pre-entree: this is the seated version of an appetizer, and is usually a soup, salad, or pasta, and sometimes all 3 at higher-end events
Entree: this is your main course! You’ll want to focus on serving a balanced meal that includes proteins and carbs. Be sure to remember any dietary preferences, like vegan meals or specific allergies
Dessert: you can opt for a plated singular dessert, family style platters on tables, or a dessert buffet station. Fruits are often added to this course
Late-night snacks: longer events like weddings and galas will often have late-night food stations set up for further eating as the night goes on
Enjoy the banquet event
Once you’ve planned your menu, you can enjoy the delicious food you’ve chosen!
